ANDREW J. MERKOWSKY Andrew J. Merkowsky, 90, died May 10, 2013, in Allentown, PA, where he had been residing since September 2012. A preivi-ous lifetime Bayonne resident, he was born on April 27, 1923, the son of the late Anna (Conko) and Andrew J. Merkowsky, Sr. He was an electrical engineer with Western Electric, Company, re-tiring in 1983. He was a decorated U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and Korea, where he served on the U.S.S. Jarvis DD799. He retired from the U.S. Naval Reserves as a Commander. He was a very active member of St. Mary Star of the Sea R.C.C. with the Holy Name Society; a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 371, the Serra Club, the Catholic Committee of Scouting, the American Legion Post 165, Korean War Vets, Tin Can Sailors, Association of the U.S. Navy and many other organiza-tions. He was the beloved husband of the late Irene (Stepa-nek); devoted father of Andrew and his wife Patty of Pennsylva-nia, Michael and his wife Judy of New Jersey; loving grandfather of Megan, Michael, Matthew, Mitchell, Martin and Morgan; endeared brother of Anne Hut-chinson of Florida and Agnes Gatz of New Mexico; dear uncle of many nieces, nephews and their families. Andy had a very fulfilling life serving God, his country and his family Special thanks to the staffs at St. Ann's Home, Jersey City and Above & Beyond Assisted Living, Allen-town, PA. Visitation begins Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. at Migliaccio Funeral Home; followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Church, Bayonne. Entombment with full military honors, Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum.
