Anthony "Tony" Maita, 84 of Bayonne passed peacefully on August 4, 2011 surrounded by family. Born on April 25, 1927 he was a life long resident of Bayonne. He is the beloved husband to Valerie Maita, and beloved father to Gary, wife Mariann, and Dominick "Micky", wife Jill. He is the beloved step-father to Contessa and Damon, grandfather to Michael, Andrew, and Julianna, step-grandfather to Syan, Gage, Nyla, and Ava. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He is preceded by his siblings Joey, Angelo, Carmine, Sammy, Ana, Mary, Kathy, and Betty. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served as a corpsman during 1945-1948. On his 75th birthday the city of Bayonne proclaimed April 28, 2002 "Tony Maita Day" in honor of his many contributions. Some of his honors for generosity were from Lady of Assumption, Veterans from Vietnam, United Cerebral Palsy of Hudson County, CWV Post 1612, Independence of People with Disabilities, F.A. McKenzie Post, and Friends of the Handicapped. Tony's passion was cooking and owned various resteraunts and bars in Bayonne and Union City. He owned 7/11, Maita's, Tony Maita Rendevous, and family owned Silver Moon and Dominicks. He also owned Tony Maita's Villa in Union City which was a frequent hang out for locals, travelers, and celebrities alike. He was a long time chef at the McKenzie post. Tony was a true patriot and later became well known for "Tony Maita's Hot Dogs", first near the McKenzie post and then located on Broadway and 11th Street. Tony was kind and overly generous and loved his family and friends deeply. Tony was loved by many and will be sorely missed by all who knew him
