Antonieta Ong

June 13, 1946 – September 18, 2024

Antonieta, known to some as Nita, Nene to many, passed away on Wednesday, September 18th in Bayonne, NJ. Her life's journey began in Cataingan of Masbate Province in the Philippines, where she was born and raised by her predeceased parents, Leopoldo Ong and Fidela Alerta. Antonieta pursued her dream of a better life for her children. Her unparalleled love for her family, grit, and determination, gave her strength to leave her children behind while she worked in Saudi Arabia and Canada, before settling in Jersey City, New Jersey where she reunited with her children. Antonieta worked as a teacher in Saint Aloysius Elementary School, and an ESL teacher for many years for the James F. Murray (PS #38) Elementary School. She was known as a teacher who set high standards of excellence for her students. Antonieta was a tireless worker, often holding more than one job at a time to make ends meet. She enjoyed her golden years reading books, watching movies and teleseryes, and chatting with families, friends and loved ones no matter the time of day. Reconnecting with her relatives from Masbate brought joy to her, and she held a special place in her heart for them. She also loved good meals, especially around her family. A proud and loving mother to Roderick, Frederick, Christopher, Michael and Robert, a mother-in-law to Cheryl, Angel, Marissa, Anne and Dan, a cherished grandmother to Renee, Jeremy, Christian, Alexander and Emma, and a dear sister to William Alerta. Antonieta was also predeceased by her sisters, Wilita Alerta and Wilma Keng.
