DORIA, Antonio, 84, of Bayonne, passed away peacefully on Saturday March 16th at the Bayonne Medical Center with his family by his side. Tony has been referred to as a master builder. He was an Italian immigrant entrepreneur, and founder of "Doria Brothers Inc." He was president of the New Jersey Soccer Association for the last 28 years until last summer, when he relinquished his position because of illness. He was inducted in the NJ Soccer Hall of Fame in 2006, and in the United States Adult Soccer Association Hall of Fame in 2007. Actively involved in the Bayonne Italian Club, Tony soon became on of the major figures in the development of new leagues and promoting the game of soccer in the U.S. He helped to found the Italian American Soccer League of NJ in 1960 and was president of that League for 20 years. Tony is considered a Pioneer of Soccer in the United States for his dedication and love to the sport. He was one of the first individuals that promoted international exhibition games in the U.S. to benefit the many different ethnic groups. Among his most successful achievements, he was the first person who promoted a game in the U.S. in the early 1960's that included the famous Santos FC team with Pelé. His expertise in promoting games led to The United States Soccer Federation appointing him to the U.S. International Games Committee, where he served for many years. Tony was a beloved husband to the late Caterina (nee:Montesano), a devoted father to Vito Doria and Maria Doria. Cherished grandfather to Antonio and his wife Katherine, Jacqueline and Lisa Doria, and a loving father in law to Camille Doria. A dear brother to Vincenza Puja, Maria Spano and Lena Greto. Tony was also predeceased by his parents Vito and Sophia (nee:Sinopoli) Doria, his granddaughter Nina Catherine Gonzalez, and his brother Vito Doria. Visitation will be tomorrow Tuesday March 19th from 4:00 to 8:00pm at the Migliaccio Funeral Home, Bayonne. A mass will be offered on Wednesday March 20th at 10:30am at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Bayonne. Entombment will be in San Vito, Italy. In lieu of flowers, donations in Tony's name may be made to the Food Pantry at O.L. of the Assumption Church, Bayonne or to the Alzheimer Association. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
