It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edward Walter Powanda, 85, of Middlesex, formerly of Bayonne, who passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2026.

Born in Bayonne, New Jersey, on October 28, 1940, Edward worked at Military Sealift Command in Virginia Beach, Virginia, for 28 years before his retirement.

Edward was a devoted father to his four daughters, Eileen Powanda, Kathleen Geisler and her husband Robert, Megan Powanda, and the late Marybeth Powanda.

Lovingly known as "Grandpa Sam," Edward was a cherished grandfather to Gabriella Fortune, Samantha Fortune, Mallory Geisler, Robert Geisler, Nolan Geisler, and Ian Geisler.

Edward was also a dear brother to Daniel Joseph Powanda and Richard Powanda. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas Michael Powanda and John Louis Powanda, and his sister, Marie Doris Callahan.

Family and friends are invited to gather at Migliaccio Funeral Home, 851 Kennedy Boulevard, Bayonne, on Thursday, October 22, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. A procession will follow to Holy Name Cemetery in Jersey City for burial at 1:30 PM.

A Funeral Mass in Edward's honor will be celebrated on Saturday, November 28, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Church.
