In Loving Memory
Gaetano "Guy" Scrudato
August 21, 1947 - May 8, 2025
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Gaetano "Guy" Scrudato of Bayonne, a beloved husband, father, nonno, brother and friend. He left us peacefully on Thursday, May 8th at his home surrounded by family. Guy's life was defined by his strong work ethic, unwavering loyalty and his zeal for the simple joys of life.
Born in San Giovanni Gemini, Province of Agrigento, Sicily, Guy's childhood was steeped in the pastoral hills of his family's farm. There, he loved tending to the goats and cultivating the rich flora of peaches, almonds, pistachios, and olives; tastes, scents and experiences he described in every nostalgic anecdote.
After moving to the United States as a young adult, he put down roots in Bayonne where he fell in love with Marie, his wife of 46 years. His ingenuity, artistry and attention to detail led him to the craft of carpentry. He spent his career at Anderson Kitchens (formerly, Woodward Lumber) of Bayonne and Staten Island where he developed life-long friendships with owners Jack and Betty Pietruszka. Guy thrived on finishing kitchens, building for others their heart of the home. Even after retiring, you'd find him with a wooden folding ruler in his jean's back pocket and a short pencil behind his ear, always ready to help a friend.
Guy was a founder of Circolo Italiano, an Italian-American social club in Bayonne and a loyal fan of the Juventus Football Club. His favorite pastimes were gardening and cooking. Guy grew tomatoes, figs, eggplant and cucuzza, reminiscent of his childhood in Sicily, and he loved to share and prepare these fresh foods for everyone to enjoy.
The son of the late Salvatore and Rosalia Scrudato, Gaetano was the loving husband of Marie and devoted father of Lori (Aaron), Salvator and Alyssa. He was the proud grandpop to Landon and Aiden who could usually sway their nonno to play one more game of Scopa. Guy was the dear brother to Lorenzo (Kathleen) Scrudato, Maria (Vincenzo) Di Bella, Carmelo (Maria) Scrudato and the late Francesco Scrudato and brother-in-law to Joseph (Debbie) Piccolo. Gaetano adored being an uncle to Larry (Toni) Scrudato, Christopher Scrudato, Marc Scrudato, Sal (Yusmila) Di Ciaccio, Patrizia Di Bella, Roberto Di Bella, Jennifer (Paul) Gontarz, Maria Cristina Scrudato, the late Marcello Scrudato, and all of his great nephews and nieces. He was also blessed with an incredible community of friends especially Joe DeMarco, Tony Alfieri and Ramon Bonilla who he loved like family.
All are invited to attend the viewing on Monday, May 12th, from 9am to 10:45am at Migliaccio Funeral Home (851 Kennedy Boulevard, Bayonne).
