Obituary

James "Jay" DiDomenico - age 60, passed away on October 10, 2022. Jay was a lifelong resident of Bayonne since his birth at Bayonne Hospital on August 8, 1962.

After graduating from St. Peter's Prep and The Catholic University of America where he was proud to serve as Student Government President, Jay joined his Dad at the helm of Eagle Bus Service. Though he served as the Head of Operations, Jay jumped at the opportunity to get behind the wheel, picking up weary NYC commuters at the end of the day or heading to AC with some lucky passengers. He proudly kept his Bus Driver's license all these years. Jay went on to manage Nicco's restaurant and Rascal's Comedy Club in downtown Jersey City before returning to his transportation roots. Jay proudly served for the last 17 years as the Director of the Hudson Transportation Management Association (TMA), a division of the Hudson County Improvement Authority. He relished his role in helping people of all ages commute in environmentally friendly ways.  Jay especially loved the parts of his job interacting with the community, like joining Buster the Bus or sponsoring the Golden Sneaker contest to encourage school children to walk more often and teaching them bicycle safety, honoring environmentally conscious businesses with the NJ Smart Workplaces Award, teaching pedestrian safety to Seniors, and planning the annual Shakespeare in the Park-ing Spot, to promote awareness of the open spaces that can be enjoyed by communities when less cars are on the road.

Jay enjoyed many passions in life. While originally bringing his daughters to the dojo, he eventually joined and worked tirelessly to achieve a life-long dream of achieving his Black belt (actually- navy blue!) in Soo Bahk Do. Many know that Jay had a passion for cooking (originally developed as a necessity when his wife turned in her apron). He loved his many years of teaching Cooking for Beginners and Wine Appreciation for the Bayonne Community Education program. Jay finally found his niche and 'friendship through gastronomy' when he joined Les Marmitons 15 years ago. He loved cooking with his club members and learning from great chefs. And his family appreciated his skill and enthusiasm in making amazing dishes. Though never officially honored as such, Jay may have also earned 'the greatest Eater' status in his club.

Jay is survived by his wife of 33 years Doreen (originally - his High School prom date in 1980, to whom he initially professed that he didn't believe in long-term relationships), his precious daughters Wendy and Jaime and his furry 'son' Cody, his mother Carol DiDomenico, his sister and brother-in-law Carol and Mac Womack, his brother-in-law Bill McAndrew, and his beloved nieces and nephews Ali (Anthony), Carol Leigh (Jason), Joe, Macky (Eriko), and Deena (Ryan). Jay was pre-deceased by his father Anthony (Sonny) DiDomenico, his beloved grandmother Wanda Lempa and his grandfather, former Bayonne mayor G. Thomas DiDomenico .

Jay was blessed to have an abundant number of friends in his life dating back from childhood, elementary school, high school, college, and life since. Jay had a positive demeanor and a quick wit, infusing humor into any situation, even making doctors and nurses smile during his illness.

Visitations for Jay will be held on Saturday October 15 th from 6-8PM, Sunday October 16 th from 1-3PM and again from 5-7PM and on Monday morning from 9-10:30AM at Migliaccio Funeral Home, 851 Kennedy Blvd. (at 33 rd St.) in Bayonne.  A funeral mass will also be celebrated on Monday at 10:45AM at St. Henry's Church, 28 West 29 th Street in Bayonne with interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, NJ

Donations can be made in Jay's honor to any of the wonderful organizations that have served Wendy and the special-needs community: The Windmill Alliance (where there is a direct link to donate on Jay's obituary page at www.MigliaccioFuneralHome.com) or to The Bayonne Friends of the Handicapped, Bayonne Elks Lodge 434 and/or Camp Fatima of NJ.
