DOHERTY, James Michael, 66, of Bayonne. A warrior in the truest sense, ended his long fought battle and came to the end of his final watch, entering the arms of his beloved Lord, his soul surrounded by loved ones on Friday January 23, 2026. Son of the late John H. and Rose (nee:Abate) Doherty.
He leaves behind to mourn his beloved wife Karen, his sons of whom he couldn't be prouder of, James Austin Doherty and his wife Kristin and Matthew John Doherty. His cherished granddaughters Madison Rose, Giana Antonella and Olivia Kristina Doherty, his brothers Kevin Doherty and his wife Donna, John Doherty, and Brian Doherty and his wife Marjo, his sisters in law Barbara Becker, Susan Delaney and her husband the late Joseph, Donna Nadrowski and her husband Ray, whom he affectionately called Uncle Ray, Teresa Vernaglia (Goldberg) and her husband the late James Vernaglia, his brother in law Donald Ker (Peaches) and his wife Carol. His nephews Jack Doherty, Thomas Doherty-his song and dance man, Donald Ker Jr., John Delaney and the late Joseph Delaney. His nieces Cassie McConnell and her husband Mark, Nancy Johnson and her husband Russell, Kelly Simoes and her husband Joe, Jennifer and Liane Venaglia, Melissa Kuzma and Amanda Vernaglia. James also leaves behind many great nieces and nephews especially his beloved Lia Rose!!!, his HHO and Astera families whom he loved beyond measure.
A Navy Veteran, retired NYPD Officer, a true Patriot with an enduring love of his Country. He touched countless lives with his profound sense of humor, warmth, outgoing nature, his disarming wit, empathetic and generous heart.
He was an avid reader and loved doing daily crossword puzzles, a passionate music lover (The Jukes). A true and loyal friend. Above everything a husband to the love of his life, Karen - inseparable to the end and beyond, never missing an opportunity or a day to let everyone know how much he adored her. With shattered Hearts-We will honor Jim.
