Obituary

John P. Ruiu, 89, of Bayonne passed away peacefully on Monday, March 9th at the Jersey City Medical Center from injuries sustained from a tragic automobile accident at the Wendy's restaurant in Bayonne on February 19th. Born in Connecticut, John lived almost his entire life in Bayonne. He graduated from local schools and from Bayonne Technical High School. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy during WWII. He was awarded the Victory Medal, American Theater Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Medal. While in the Navy, he also studied briefly at Purdue University in Indiana prior to being deployed to the Pacific theater. Early on, he was employed by American Type Founders in Elizabeth and the Brooklyn Navy Yard. He spent the majority of his career as a Planner/Estimator in the Engineering Department of the Military Ocean Terminal in Bayonne. He retired from the Military Ocean Terminal in the early 90's. He was predeceased by: His parents John and Josephine (nee: Carucci) Ruiu and his brothers Albert and Bernard. Also predeceased by his brother-in-law Vincent Falciani. Beloved husband of 44 years to Carmela (nee: Provenzano); Devoted father to Jody M. Ruiu-Geisert and her husband Steven J. Geisert; Cherished grandfather to George R. Geisert and Giovanna R. Geisert (his namesake); Loving brother to Josephine Bonnie Smith (Walter), Claire Falciani and sister-in-law Rolene Ruiu; Also survived by so many devoted nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. A wake will be held at the Migliaccio Funeral Home, 851 JFK Boulevard, Bayonne, NJ, on Thursday, March 12th from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and again on Friday, March 13th from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday, March 14th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary, Star of the Sea Church, Bayonne. Interment with military honors will follow at Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in John's memory to the John P. Ruiu Fund at Seton Hall University to support students who have lost a parent. (Seton Hall University, attn.: J. Guasconi/Ruiu Fund, 457 Centre St., South Orange, NJ 07079). The family wishes to thank so many people who have lent their prayers, support and assistance during these last difficult weeks. There are too many to list here. A very special thank you to the Bayonne Police Department, the trauma team at Jersey City Medical Center, St. Leo the Great School in Lincroft, and Dr. John Joseph Smith of Bayonne.
