Obituary

Dr. Joseph J. Chimento, Jr., 64, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 2, 2024  surrounded by his loving family. A lifelong resident of Bayonne, Joe was born in Jersey City to the late Altheda (nee: Warman) and Joseph J. Chimento, Sr.

Joe was a graduate of Marist High School and Trenton State College. He was an eager learner who sought out opportunities to discover new things. Almost 30 years out of college he

went on to earn his Master's Degree from NJIT and continued on to earn his Doctorate from NJCU at the age of sixty. After completing his D.Sc. program, he earned a Master Beekeeping Certificate from Cornell University. He shared his enthusiasm for learning, often encouraging others, and giving them the tools and guidance to continue down their own paths for personal and professional growth.

Joe's hobbies became passions that he enthusiastically shared with anyone who would listen. As an early adopter of internet technology he hosted the Bayonne BBS, an early version of social networking, and guided many individuals, schools, and organizations onto the world wide web during those early years. His most recent passion was beekeeping. He was often occupied with maintaining his hives, sharing local honey, and giving presentations to groups of all ages about bees.

Joe was a quiet man known for his sincere greetings and contagious smile, but those who knew him personally also knew he had an unmatched sense of humor.  He was an inspiration to so many and touched the lives of those that were lucky enough to know him.  He was incredibly generous, volunteering his time to schools, churches, and communities throughout the years.  His love, laughter, and encouragement will live in our hearts forever.

Joe is survived by his wife of 40 years, Barbara (nee: Creswick), daughters Christine and her husband Jeffrey Kuderna, and Danielle and her husband Drew Warren, and his beloved granddaughters Natalie and Charlotte Kuderna, whom he adored.  He is also survived by his sister MaryAnn Gilson and her husband John, and many nieces and nephews.
