IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Josephine
Decaterina
August 27, 1924 – January 5, 2024
Josephine (Josie) DeCaterina was a Bayonne resident for 20 years, moving to Middletown NJ in 2021. She passed away peacefully on Friday, January 5th at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank. Josie was a beloved wife to her late husband Carmine, a loving mother to her daughter Maryann and son-in-law Charlie, and to her son Salvatore and daughter-in-law Linda. Josie is also survived by her grandson Chris and his partner Jean Marie and grandchildren Chris, Summer and Sienna.
Josie had 4 siblings who predeceased her. Her sisters Ann and Marie were her best friends and her two brothers, Mike and Benny.
Josie loved her family, was an avid reader, and lit up a room with her smile, sharp wit and positive attitude. Even though she lived to the blessed age of 99, she didn't walk, talk, act or dress her age. She was interesting and interested in all aspects of life. She was modern and loved to dress up, especially in leopard. She enjoyed mani pedis and always wore red nail polish. She followed the political scene and loved Jeopardy, the Turner Classic Movies, Frank Sinatra, Betty Boop and cookies -- lots of them. She prayed to Saint Anthony for everything, especially items that went missing, and he never seemed to fail her. She was generous to the Catholic church, several Veterans groups (her husband Carmine served in World War 2) and just about any organization that reached out in need of help. She appreciated life and never took anything for granted. She knew she was blessed and we were all blessed to share in her life.
