Mary Pompeo (nee: Mastromonaco) - was welcomed into the loving arms of Our Lord on Saturday, August 22nd 2015, she was 100 years old. Born March 25, 1915 in Jersey City, NJ, Mary was the eldest child of Lewis and Josephine Mastromonaco. She spent most of her life in Bayonne and the last few years with her daughter in Hamilton, NJ. Mary worked at Stepack's Dress Factory in Bayonne as a seamstress for many years. She was a lifelong member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church, The Golden Agers and the Altar Rosary Society. She enjoyed working at the Assumption Church Carnival where she cooked and served zeppoles for many years. Mary loved to knit and crochet and was famous for baking her Italian Iced Lemon Cookies. Mary was pre-deceased by her husband Patrick Pompeo in 2007 as well as her siblings Thomas Mastrmonaco, Modesto & Lucy Pompeo and Margaret & Paul Lombardo. Surviving Mary is her daughter Leona Lucania and her husband Sal and her son Bernard "Bill" Pompeo. Also surviving Mary are her 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren & 4 great-great grandchildren as well as her special extended family, The Kellihers and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and dear friends. Visitation will be held on Wednesday August 26th from 3-8 pm at Migliaccio Funeral Home, 851 Kennedy Blvd. (at 33rd St.) in Bayonne. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday August 27th beginning at 10:30 am at Assumption Church, 91 W. 23rd St. in Bayonne with family and friends welcome to gather at the funeral home starting at 9:30 am. Interment will follow at Holy Name Cemetery in Jersey City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mary's memory to Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 91 W. 23rd St in Bayonne with envelopes provided at the funeral home or with a link found on Mary's obituary page at www.MigliaccioFuneralHome.com.
