IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Nelson Olaya
Cruz
September 6, 1944 – November 19, 2024
Nelson Olaya 80, of Bayonne passed away on Tuesday November 19th. Nelson was born and raised in Peru, one of the eldest of twelve. There he developed his love for soccer, delicious food, and mischievousness. After immigrating to the United States, he built a life in Jersey City and bought a home there for his family. He continued to play soccer in Van Cortlandt Park in NY and later in life developed a passion for tennis; he spent hours on the courts with his friends.
Nelson worked in New York City as a computer service technician until retiring shortly after 9/11. He then provided his services to the JCC of Bayonne.
Nelson gives all of his love to his two daughters, Denise (Jody) and Cindy (Joey); four treasured grandchildren, Alana, Mila, Joci, and Jonah; and his brother, Rolando along with numerous family members in Peru. Words can't express the loss his family feels but are comforted knowing he brought joy and laughter to his family and friends.
Nelson taught his family that life is more important than simply being alive; one must laugh, maintain curiosity, love without limitation, and above all, dance.
