IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Nicholas
D'Angelo
October 18, 1944 – September 30, 2019
Nicholas D'Angelo, 74, of Bayonne passed away peacefully on Monday, September 30th at Hackensack University Medical Center. Born in Jersey City, Nicholas was the son of Nicholas and Angelina (nee: Marchitto) D'Angelo. A proud product of the Bayonne school system, Nicholas matriculated at Henry Harris and Horace Mann schools before graduating from Bayonne High School in 1962.
On February 26, 1965, Nicholas enlisted in the United States Army and embarked on a journey that would inform the rest of his life. Serving as a Military Policeman in Frankfurt, Germany, Nicholas surprised many in securing a date with Elizabeth Carter, and the two eventually married in Basel, Switzerland on February 27, 1968. Honorably discharged from the Army on October 18, 1968, Nicholas had proudly attained the rank of sergeant. He would often regale audiences, willing and otherwise, with tales of his experiences while in service to his country.
Nicholas began work as a bond clerk with Brown Bros. Harriman & Co. in New York City in 1969 and eventually began taking night classes at Saint Peter's College where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in 1977. By the time of his retirement from Brown Bros. in 2003, Nicholas had risen to the position of Assistant Vice-President.
Adored by many and loathed by some, Nicholas proudly owned the title of "Legend in His Own Mind," and would willingly engage in debate on any topic at any time. An avid music fan, Nicholas claimed to know exactly where he was the first time he heard any song, and remained adamant that no worthwhile music was made after 1965. History was a topic that interested Nicholas greatly, and he revered figures such as Audie Murphy and George Custer. A wonderful cook, Nicholas' skills were honed through many years working in the kitchen at Chris' Corner, and his Christmas lasagne will live on in family lore.
A self-proclaimed renaissance man who lived by the credo, "Playing well is a plus, but looking good is a must," Nicholas' true loves were his family, the United States of America, and the New York Yankees.
Nicholas was predeceased by his parents and his sister Frances Russell. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth (nee:Carter), daughter Angela Batista and her husband Bradley, daughter Elizabeth Mendez and Joel Mendez, and son, Nicholas and his wife Cindy. His cherished grandchildren are Jesse, Zachary, Guilianna, Jacob, Samuel, Nicholas, and Katharine. His dear siblings are Vincent D'Angelo (Marie), Joseph D'Angelo, Angela Pagano (Anthony), Rosemarie Murphy (William).
