Cherchio, Salvatore John (Sam) - a lifelong resident of Bayonne, passed away peacefully at his residence with his family by his side on November 6, 2011. He was 91 years old. Sal was a prominent, well respected businessman in the community who owned and operated Bayonne Block Company for over 60 years. He was also a Navy Veteran who proudly served his country in WW II. He was pre-deceased by his wife Frances (nee: Calcaterra) and sisters Anne Novello and Mildred O'Neill. He is survived by his children John and his wife Roberta, Richard and his wife Noella and Diane and her husband Eric Linehan as well as long time companion Jayne Schoss and his sisters Lucy Napolitano and Eleanor Cerbone. He was also the beloved grandfather to Lisa, John and his wife Francine, Christopher and his wife Katie, Michael, Richard and his wife Paula, Nicole and her husband Bentley Vaughan, Matthew, Francesca, Steven, Samantha and Sarah West and four great grandchildren, John, Denise, Naya and Liliana. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation will be Wednesday November 9, from 4 - 8pm at The Migliaccio Funeral Home, 851 Kennedy Blvd. at 33rd Street in Bayonne. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday November 10th at 9:45am with an entombment ceremony to follow at Hollywood Memorial Park in Union, NJ. In lieu of any flowers the family requests that donations be made to The Disabled Veterans of America.
