Koons, Winfield Scott - past away peacefully with family by his side on Thursday February 28, 2013 he was 69. Born in Camden NJ In April of 1944, Scotty resided in Bayonne for most of his life. In his youth he was a proud member of the Sea Scouts BSA. After graduating Bayonne HS in 1963 he joined the US Coast Guard and proudly served for 4 years. Scotty was a professional mariner most of his life, at times working in other trades and was later employed by the Dept. of public works for Bayonne. Scotty was a life member of The Atlas Yacht Club having formerly served as Vice Commander, Rear Commodore, Secretary and Trustee. He loved spending time on his boat exploring wreck sites and all things historical and until the early part of 2012; he remained active in spite of his ongoing battle with lung cancer. Scotty was a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous for more than 40 years and was an inspiration to and friend to many. Scotty was pre-deceased by his parents Woody and Tina (nee: Marciello) Koons, his sister Winette and her husband Richard Geis and sister Bonnie Gaffney. Scotty was also the beloved companion to Linda McDonald with whom he also resided. He is survived by his beloved daughter Allison Martin and her husband Jeff, his 2 granddaughters Jesse and Carly Martin, nephews Rick and Randy Geis and Randy's wife Jen and John Gaffney. A visitation and prayer service will be held on Sunday March 3rd from 1-5 PM at Migliaccio Funeral Home, 851 Kennedy Blvd. (at 33rd St.) in Bayonne and a private cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donation be made in Scotty's memory to The Bayonne Visiting Nurses Hospice Care, 325 Broadway, Bayonne 07002.
