Vincent Joseph Oliva (3/8/48 - 11/27/13) completed his life journey this past Wednesday afternoon in Hackensack University Medical Center, ending a courageous three year battle against multiple myeloma. His life ended just as he lived it, embraced by the presence of his beloved family. He spent his last moments of life beside his wife of 42 years, Catherine, his sons Vincent Thomas & his wife Jessica and Jamie Michael & his fiancée Jessica, and his brother Robert. He also leaves behind is granddog, Tyson. He was preceded in passing by his parents, Vincent James & Sarah, and his sister Catherine. He was the son-in-law of late Thomas & Ann Glancy. As a Police Sergeant, his career was dedicated to the Port Authority Police Dept., where he was instrumental in establishing the K-9 Explosive & Narcotics Detection Division until his retirement in 2003. He served throughout the 9/11 tragedy at the World Trade Center and Newark International Airport, and his efforts and instruction have been instrumental to multiple Police Depts. and organizations throughout the Country, including the United States Park Police, the Dept. of Homeland Security, Association for Explosive Detection K9's International, the US Coast Guard, GSS Security, the MTA Police, the NJ Transit Police, ATF, NYPD K9 Division, the US Marshal Service, and various Police Departments throughout New Jersey, including Bayonne, Jersey City, Holmdel, Franklin Twp., and Hawthorn. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at Migliaccio Funeral Home located at 851 John F. Kennedy Blvd., Bayonne, NJ. A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday at 8:45am at the funeral home, with a mass being offered at St. Andrew Catholic Church located at 125 Broadway (corner of W. 4th Street) on Wednesday, December 4 at 9:45AM, and he will be laid to rest immediately following at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.
