January 1, 1924 – February 10, 2023
Vito Doria, surrounded by his loving family, peacefully entered into eternal rest at the age of 99. Vito was born in the town of San Vito, Sui lonio in the Calabrian Region of Italy. Settling in America at the age of ten, Vito spent his entire civilian life in Bayonne, NJ. Vito was predeceased by his beloved wife of 70 years Anna (nee:Lettera), his parents Elizabeth (nee:Polera) and Vincenzo Doria, brother Vincent and his wife Tina and son-in-law Paul Karabinos.
Vito is survived by his three children, daughter Elizabeth Doria-Karabinos of Manahawkin, Sons, Victor J. Doria and his wife Stephanie, Robert G. Doria and his wife Donna, all of Bayonne, lifelong friends "his other daughter" Lydia Kleiman and her husband Michael of Aiken, South Carolina, "his other son" Rev. John J. Korbelak, retired pastor of St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, Hillsdale NJ.
Vito who was known as Gramps by all who loved him and leaves behind grandchildren Paul and his wife Ann Marie, Elizabeth and her boyfriend Kris, Christian, Jacqueline and her husband Joseph, Jonathan and his wife Donna, Brandon and his wife Samantha, Ashley and her husband Merv, and Michael Paul.
Also surviving are great grandchildren Sydney, Tyler, Anthony, Ava, Matthew, Zachary, Sloan, Santino, Dominic, Charley, Jameson and Hazel, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Vito was a proud veteran who spent three years in the US NAVY during World War II. During the war he was deployed in North Africa, Sicily and the Italian mainland where he met the love of his life Anna, in Naples, Italy. Returning with his war bride, they resided in Bayonne, NJ where they raised their family.
Vito very much enjoyed reading, photography, Italian culture, leatherworks, electronics and the great outdoors. He spent most of his work life as an electronics quality control inspector.
The family would like to thank Dr. Richard Williams who provided Vito compassionate medical care and encouragement during his senior years, as well as thanks to special friends Victor Novembrino and Roberta D'Emma, both of whom individually made frequent visits to dad to help brighten his days with their kindness and generosity.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 14th from 9-10:30 AM at Migliaccio Funeral Home, 851 Kennedy Boulevard (at 33rd St.) in Bayonne. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered also on Tuesday at 10:45am at St. Henry R.C. Church, 29th Street and Avenue C, Bayonne, NJ. Interment to follow at Holy Name Cemetery in Jersey City. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Vito's memory to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Wounded Warriors, or a charity of your choice.
